Brief Artist Statement In 1884, William Frishmuth created the largest aluminum casting that had been made up until that point. It was flawless and perfect. Nine years later, with a failing business overshadowed by other innovators, he committed suicide. As an artist I am interested in how objects and ideas develop, as well as the ways in which we accept elements of failure and incorporate them into our ideas of success. This piece encompasses ingenuity, failure, and nostalgia by drawing a link between the life of William Frishmuth and the technical marvel he produced - the tip of the Washington Monument. |
